A Fresh Start for a Holland Favorite
There’s a new energy flowing through 91 Douglas Avenue — and it’s coming from the tables, the kitchen, and the people who make Black River Billiards feel like home.
After years as a local landmark known as Rail House Grill and Billiards, and a short time as Ride the 9 Billiards, this Holland favorite has officially been reimagined and relaunched as Black River Billiards.
Owners Chris and Jamie Strowenjans, lifelong Holland residents, took over in November 2024 with a clear goal: to bring warmth, family, and fresh ideas back to the space. The entire Strowenjans family is hands-on in the business — from bartending and cooking to management and day-to-day operations — making Black River Billiards a true family-owned and operated destination.
A New Look and Feel
Visitors will notice the difference right away. The space has been refreshed with new artwork, restored tables, and modern upgrades throughout. And just next door, the new Side Pocket Eatery is serving a made-from-scratch lunch and dinner menu that’s quickly earning rave reviews.
From classic burgers and sandwiches to creative daily specials, it’s the kind of food that fits perfectly with a night of friendly competition or casual conversation.
The Same Local Spirit
While the look has changed, the heart remains the same. Many of the beloved staff members who helped make this building a Holland staple are back, and the familiar spirit of good times and friendly faces still fills the room.
Black River Billiards continues to be a place where league players, families, and casual guests alike can gather to relax, compete, and connect.
